Townhouse insurance policy options
Your policy options can range from basic to comprehensive. And don’t forget you can also personalize your coverage. Here are the three main options:
- Comprehensive townhouse insurance: This is similar to comprehensive home insurance. It covers the greatest amount of threats. You have coverage unless it's specifically excluded in your policy. The vast majority of our customers choose this plan.
- Broad form townhouse insurance: This plan is similar to broad form home insurance. It protects against threats that are listed in your policy.
- Specified perils townhouse insurance: This is similar to named perils home insurance. Get protection against common perils, but not all. The policy only includes the perils listed in your policy.
What does townhouse insurance cover?
There are four main types of coverage included in a townhouse insurance policy:
The dwelling
The physical structure of your home is protection (walls, ceiling, floors, plumbing, electrical, and other internal systems). Freehold townhomes also have coverage for the exterior property, landscaping, sheds, and other structures.
Personal property and contents
The contents insurance portion of your coverage protects you if your things are lost, damaged, or stolen. Your policy will cover the cost to repair or replace the items.
Personal liability
The personal liability insurance portion of your policy protects you if someone is hurt on your property or you cause accidental property damage. It covers things like medical expenses, lawsuits, repairs, and other related costs.
Loss of use
Your policy provides you with additional living expenses if your home is not in livable condition after its damage. This can include living arrangements, food, and other expenses.
How much does townhouse insurance cost?
The average townhouse insurance costs can range from $700 to $2,000. Many factors in play can affect your premiums. The biggest factor is if your townhouse is classified as a condo or freehold.
